Kye Colors |
Southside teen wunderkind
Kye Colors performed in his high school's gymnasium on Friday afternoon during an exceptionally spirited assembly. Delayed from last week due to several days of winter weather, the assembly was focused on celebrating Black History Month through the musical talent and poetry of Hogan Prep's students. Following choral performances, readings, and a tribute to the school's teachers -- soundtracked by the inescapable "
God's Plan" -- Kye Colors sauntered across the gym floor. Kye performed an unreleased song from his upcoming release "Swim" accompanied by a more informal choir of his classmates. The gymnasium setting, the soulful composition, and Kye's soft-spoken, but effortless charisma all contributed the intense early Kanye vibes going on. Following the new song, Kye performed a shortened version of "
Warning" before handing the mic off to Mike 2X for a performance of his song "
Just Like Rosie" -- a tribute to a friend of the two who passed away last year.
