Saturday night's Shuttlecock House Party found three local crews colliding for the first time and coming out friends. Samurai performed a catalog-spanning set that included some of his earliest singles, tracks from his new EPs, and one unreleased cut. Many rappers well-versed in trap sounds often fail to connect with fans on more toned-down cuts, but his closing number, "
Hell Of A Night," was a clever and heartfelt way to end the show. One of Rage Gang, Beam Team's first Kansas City shows brought the unfettered party energy that the duo is known well for in Olathe. Attendees caught their five most recent SoundCloud releases, as well as a closing throwback to the early "
Doobie." Gun Band -- a new post-hardcore ensemble featuring members of Bummer, American Thunder Band, and others -- made its Kansas City debut, delivering a loud and highly emotive set of complex jams while donning matching blue flame button-ups.
We want to give a big thank you to all the performers that played and all the folks who came out to hang with us.
