Luke Combs

I'd be willing to bet that if polled, most readers of this blog would not consider themselves to be fans of modern pop country music. And that's alright. But if anyone is feeling adventurous or looking to challenge themselves, I would recommend that they listen to a handful of songs by Tennessee-via-North Carolina singer-songwriter Luke Combs. The country star rose to fame in 2017 with his hit "When It Rains It Pours" -- a song about a man's luck turning around following a scratch-off lotto ticket win -- and has been followed up by all four of his albums hitting the top five of the Billboard 200 album charts. Combs possesses one of modern country's most powerful voices, sings some of its most clever songs, and injects tasteful bits of Southern rock where they make sense. Aside from his breakout hit, I'd recommend new fans check out "Beer Never Broke My Heart," "1, 2 Many" (ft. Brooks & Dunn), "Going, Going, Gone," the R&B-styled "The Kind Of Love We Make," and his very impressive cover of Tracy Chapman's classic "Fast Car." Combs plays Arrowhead Stadium on Saturday.

 

Other acts worth catching this week include Closet Witch, Korine, The Sisters Of Mercy, Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears, Family Vacation, Deterioration, Psychic Heat, The ACBs, The Rackatees, Zero Function, and God's Computer.
