Live This Week: November 19 - 25, 2023

Despite it being the week of the turkey holiday, there are three gigs I highly recommend you attend. On Sunday, Columbus hardcore band En Love and Kenosha duo Livid headline what may be one of the most raucous Kansas City hardcore gigs of the year. Wear ear protection (and maybe even a helmet if you're prone to getting moshed upon). On Wednesday, the Continuous Improvement crew that is New Jersey rapper Papo2oo4, Massachusetts rapper/producer DJ Lucas, and New Jersey producer/DJ Subjxct 5 returns to the area for their third Shuttlecock show (their first in Kansas City, following two past outings in Lawrence basements). Then on Saturday, Ryan Davis & The Roadhouse Band from Louisville visit town along with Ace Of Spit from St. Louis. Ryan Davis was the force behind the remarkably underappreciated alt-country outfit State Champion and has now released his debut LP under his own name. Truly, there are few American singer-songwriters who write lyrics as visceral and clever as Davis does.

Other acts worth catching this week include The Popper, Mariah Carey, The Freedom Affair, Commodities Exchange, and The String & Return.
