Live This Week: May 26 - June 1, 2024

Modern Color

This week in Kansas City, Missouri and its surrounding areas: lots of live music. Modern Color emerged from the DIY hardcore scene but makes some of the most gloom-inducing (or gloom-matching, if you're already down) post-hardcore and emo out of any active band right now. Part of the formula includes injecting just the right amount of grunge and shoegaze scuzz and fuzz into the mix to make the songs sound familiar yet otherworldly. See them Tuesday night at the Encore at Uptown Theater. Other Shuttlecock gigs this week include Academy Order (Philly post-punk), Bedtimemagic (Boston noise rock), Almanac Man (Denver noise rock), and Peace Decay (Austin crust punk) / Clarko (Reno melodic punk).
