Cloud Nothings
Cleveland, Ohio rock band Cloud Nothings played at recordBar on Friday night. The quartet -- playing on mostly borrowed equipment -- dished out powerful emo-tinged rock tunes as a part of The Record Machine's new Sound Machine concert series.

The label selected two newer Kansas City bands to open: False Brother and Mess. False Brother -- despite a couple hiccups -- was successful in capturing the attention of a bustling weeknight crowd, most of which hadn't heard them before.

Mess was the first band to take the stage. The young indie outfit played a keenly constructed set consisting of soothing pop melodies and noisy crescendos reminiscent of radio-friendly shoegaze act The Joy Formidable. False Brother and Mess will both be performing again at next month's Middle Of The Map Fest.
