Chuck D and Flavor Flav of Public Enemy |
Hip-hop icons and Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Public Enemy put on an explosive hour long performance on Saturday night to close out this years Free State Festival in Lawrence. The set consisted of their '80's and '90's hits, newer cuts, Flavor Flav's takes on current flavor of the day hip-hop, and plenty of shots at Donald Trump and other perpetrators of racism and separatism. The free show outside on New Hampshire St. was opened by Kansas City afrobeat machine Hearts Of Darkness, one of Ebony Tusks' shortest yet most powerful performances yet, and a lively set from duo Lincoln Marshall (Approach and MilkDrop). Roughly 7,500 locals showed up to see some of the genre's and the area's greats and nobody went home disappointed.
