While the punk bands played
inside, another show happened Thursday night on the Riot Room patio. The crowd caught the tail end of some rain passing through as three stoner metal bands graced the dimly lit stage. Inner Altar, made up of members of Kansas City hardcore bands past and present, played an excellent set of authentic and bluesy rock-n-roll. Fellow locals Merlin offered their own take on the genre, a bit nerdier (they brought their own fog machine and laser lights), but just as heavy. Washington D.C.'s Dead Meadow capped off the night with their well-polished, highly instrumental grooves.
