Flordia rapper Smokepurpp may not have any hits as big as "Gucci Gang," last year's breakout hit from his close friend Lil Pump, but he still brought a catalog full of SoundCloud hits to Lawrence earlier this month. It was his first area show after a lackluster performance at last year's Flyover festival in Bonner Springs. This time, headlining in front of a vibrant LED screen, beside some Monster Energy coolers, and occasionally on top of a riser made from a coffin, Purpp at least partially made up for his last local set.

Despite still neglecting his microphone on some tracks, having the crowd's undivided attention seemed to boost his interest in the gig and inspire a more energetic performance. His delivery was at times raspier than on record, but recent singles like "Do Not Disturb" and oldies like "Audi" still spawned raucous mosh pits. Fans also nearly witnessed some clickbait-era magic when one fan took Purpp's "Fuck J. Cole" chant and replaced Cole's name with Kanye. Purpp stood at the edge of the stage, shouting and seeking out the troublemaker before his team pulled him back.

The night also included performances from Seattle 16 year-old Lil Mosey, an apron-donning Larry June, and St. Louis rapper but Lawrence regular Yusee.
