Live This Week: October 3 - 9, 2021

City Morgue

Alphonse Pierre (one of my personal favorite hip-hop writers) recently wrote about the prevalence of the term "rage" in mainstream hip-hop in addition to the surface-level obsession with mosh pits, heavy metal, and punk rock. While I can't personally speak to the hardcore bona fides of ZillaKami and SosMula, the New York duo known as City Morgue, what I can speak to is the intensity of their live performances, which surpasses a large majority of other rappers that appropriate similar imagery. Though $uicideboy$ have a larger and more rabid fanbase (and are solid enough performers themselves), I'd argue that City Morgue showed them up performance-wise when they toured together two years ago. You can catch City Morgue this Thursday evening at Liberty Hall.

Other gigs worth catching this week include our house show with Cleveland punk rockers Yambag, blues icon Buddy Guy, Mr. Worldwide himself (Pitbull), and the formerly acclaimed and more recently reviled St. Vincent. Details and ticket links for these shows and more are below.
