Deep Space Co-Op - Kansas City, MO

Missouri based clothing company Humble Pleasures hosted its inaugural Humble Market at Deep Space Co-Op in the Crossroads this past Saturday. The free event featured a handful of vendors (one of which was Shuttlecock) offering clothing, zines, cameras, and other goods. The night also included performances from two local acts. Singer-songwriter Sam Wells kicked things off with material, equal parts charming and anxious, from her debut EP, For The Deflated. In between tunes about climate change helplessness and confrontations with body image, Wells offered covers of Maroon 5's "Sunday Morning" and Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy."

Paris Williams has been gigging relatively hard post-pandemic with multiple sets at Replay Lounge, one at AV Club, one at Lemonad(e) Park, and (the day after this show) opening for his friends in Blackstarkids at recordBar. Fortunately for those who have caught him more than once, this night's set included, in additions to Cocoa favorites, at least three or four unreleased songs, ranging from catchy, thoughtful pop-rap to more rugged, rock-inspired tracks featuring distorted guitars and hungry bars.
