DJ Shadow |
DJ Shadow -- a legend in the world of electronic music -- returned to Kansas City on Monday night to play at Madrid Theatre. Shadow performed several tracks from last year's album "The Mountain Will Fall," as well as his EP "The Mountain Has Fallen" that he released just last week. His stage production was made up of three hulking projection screens along with an array of lights. Combined with the tour's ridiculously bass-heavy sound system, the ensuing performance was one rife with political undertones and one of complete sensory overload (in the best way possible). Shadow also won some massive bonus points with the crowd -- which already adored him -- by wearing an L.C.'s BBQ t-shirt on-stage and professing his love for Kansas City before beginning his set.
Preceding Shadow were sets from two musicians associated with Intelligent Sound.
West Peaks masterfully mixed house music tracks in with golden era hip-hop worship and hypnotized a large chunk of the audience in the process. He ended his set by explaining how DJ Shadow's first record, "Endtroducing.....," changed his life as a teenager.
