Armand Hammer

There have been club shows from mainstream acts and all-locals bills, but perhaps for the first time since the pandemic began, Lawrence, Kansas is getting a taste of some "alternative hip-hop" (quotes because this label is often used for snobbish reasons). Armand Hammer is the New York duo of Billy Woods and Elucid who are touring in support of their recent album, Haram, made in collaboration with infamous beatmaker The Alchemist. It’s one of my favorite hip-hop recordings this year so far, brimming with dark, hypnotic instrumentals and raps as cutting as they are thoughtful. Catch them Tuesday night at The Bottleneck with locals HXXS and Midwestern.
